This project will build houses for impoverished families, primarily single mothers and widows with children, and those who are sick or disabled.
Today, Tanzania records 14 million poor people, up from 13 million in 2007. Moreover, the 2019 Tanzania Mainland Poverty Assessment report notes that a significant proportion of the population remains vulnerable to falling into poverty, and about half of the population continues to live below the international poverty line of $1.90 per person per day (in 2011 purchasing power parity.)
The housing need in Tanzania is estimated to be 3 million units with an annual increase of 200,000 units (Shelter Afrique). The existence of a housing deficit is very high with consideration of the quality of houses and congestion in line with important services like water and electricity. We will build clean and safe housing for impoverished families in need, thus reducing the housing deficit.
Unsanitary living conditions i.e. the lack of clean running water, electricity, and proper housing the life expectancy of Tanzanians is only 66 yrs. Our program will not only assure clean and safe living conditions for the most vulnerable in society but also increase life expectancy as well. In the most impoverished neighborhoods, the quality of life is inhumane and is below the standard for basic human dignity. Building new houses will restore the basic quality of life that all humans deserve.
