State governments across the country began shutting down schools and colleges temporarily as a measure to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus somewhere in the second week of March. There was no immediate solution to the pandemic and thus the lockdown in the country kept extending which not only affected the businesses and offices but also the Education sector. The Class 10^th  exams were slated to take place on June 15 but were cancelled in wake of the spread of Coronavirus and the schools were directed to evaluate the students by taking into consideration students’ performance in the half-yearly exams up to a maximum weightage of 80% and the remaining percentage to be decided on the basis of their attendance.

2nd  Batch of 29 students from 10^th were to write the exam, but due to cancellation of the public exam all these 29 students were promoted to the next class. Bharath of 10th Std., passed with 90% scoring 433 marks in three subjects. We proud to say that in spite of difficulties, all the students passed in the exam.  All the students have enrolled in class 11 and are attending online classes. The School teachers are in touch with these children and ensuring that they continue their education and not get distracted because of the pandemic.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve all been witnessing the growing crisis around the coronavirus and with each passing day the situation is evolving and evolving. There’s a lot of uncertainty still surrounded as to when the life will come back to normal, when things will get back to normal so on and so forth.

However, amidst all this, the lockdown has led to some trends changing. Trends such as digital learning, work from home, contact less services etc. The world is accelerating faster than before into a more online space.

HOPE foundation Matriculation School has also integrated itself into this new normal and has adopted the digital teaching and learning platform for the students of HOPE School.

It is said that, Time and Tide wait for none. … thus, having applied this phrase in our lives, HOPE school connected with the students in the month of April 2020 and have completed three months of successful online teaching and learning of the students and also engaging the students in a meaningful way inspite of no regular school.

Though challenging but, HOPE school teachers made efforts to connect with 355 students out of 420.

Continued awareness sessions are being conducted for the parents and students on hand washing, Self-hygiene, keeping the surrounding clean, maintaining social distancing after which the teacher posts the videos related to the same on the WhatsApp group created class wise.

Teachers have created a proper timetable for online classes and are imparting foundational training inEnglish alphabets, Tamil alphabets, Numbers, Number Names, counting objects, Tamil rhymes, short stories and different environmental study concepts. Videos and worksheets are sent to students for them to practice every day.

Teachers have also shared online links with the students which carry activities such as reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, scientific experiments, word search activity, crossword, memory activity, Tamil crossword etc.,

Students are engaged in doing drawing, coloring, paper craft works, photography to stimulate their creativity.

Practical life skills/activities such as self-care, napkin folding, rolling the mat, button the shirt, walk in a circle etc., are being taught to students and asked them to learn and practice it on day to day basis.

Teachers using various methods such as screen recorder, merging the audio and video files for better concept clarity for the students.

To enhance the knowledge and capabilities of the teachers with regards to the changing trends, they are asked to attend various webinars, zoom meeting organized by various corporates that focus on different aspects of life, handling children, coping with the adversaries, children’s issues- change strategies in COVID times” etc

This pandemic has forced us to adapt and change the way we live and think because things won’t go back to normal in a few weeks, or even a few months. Some things never will go back to the way it was before March 18, when the movement control order was first enforced. Therefore, it gives us immense pleasure to say that we could not have achieved this alone. Continued support from your ends helps us educate 420 students of HOPE school even in these challenging times.
