Going extra mile to Educate underprivileged

By Mrs. Malarvili prabath | program head

HOPE foundation school teachers have been providing continued teaching to 431 students of HOPE School since the closure of the school from March 2020. We appreciate their relentless and tireless efforts in making sure that the students from LKG to 10th Std. continue their education inspite of the challenging times that we are going through.

The task at hand was not easy for the teachers. Not only the students but the parents also had to be trained and empowered on the know-how of downloading apps,  connecting and attending the online classes, responding and replying with the completed tasks through the whatsapp group, to how to record the audio and video files etc.,

38 students, who only have a normal button phone or no phone at all, the teachers connected with them through con calls/sms and guided them in their learning.  The teachers went an extra mile to visit the homes of these students to ensure that they too are connected and continue their learning.

The teachers successfully helped 417 out of 431 students to complete their academic year 2020-21 and also conducted the annual assessment between March & May 2021.

HOPE School was started in 2001 with a goal of imparting quality English medium education to the under privileged children living in Kannaginagar Slum Rehabilitation Colony in Chennai and since then it has risen in its size and numbers. The children studying here come from poor families of auto drivers, welders, daily wagers, construction workers, tailor etc., Over 75% of these families struggled to provide two meals a day and were severely affected by joblessness /no income due to COVID-19 lockdown situation in the country.

Our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for extending your continuous support which has enabled HOPE foundation to continue its service of bringing hope and changing lives of these needy students’ and their families in these challenging times.
