Our project is aimed at about 25 incomplete families (mostly young widows with their children) in the Orava region in the north of Slovakia. These families are in social and financial distress because of the death of a loved one. The main goal of the project is to increase their self-sufficiency and decrease their costs of living. We want to support them to take the opportunities they cant reach without our help, like growing vegetables or breeding animal. We also want to help them save money.
These families are under financial pressure because of the bread-winner's absence. They lack money because they underestimate their capacities to earn some from their own activity. They dont have the motivation to maintain their garden and animal shelters. Mothers need to find a second job to feed their kids but many of them miss support, advice and first investment (seeds, tools, animals) to carry. They also tend to adopt an unhealthy way of life and lack inspiration for cooking their own food
We want to offer a wide program for these families: - Provide a system of motivating, support and consulting for families starting or carrying on their activity - Provide them with some basic investment: seeds, plants, animals and basic tools - Organize workshops and consulting meetings about healthy and effective ways of cooking using herbs and natural resources, gardening tips and tricks, ways of preserving their products - Create a system to sell extras from their garden on local markets
The key impact of this project is to rise the families self-sufficiency, increase their active attitude, involve children in the households duties (in order to build their working habits). This project will allow at least 25 families to earn money by saving and sell some products, which is good for the regions dynamism. Promoting self-planted food and self-kept animal products will support a better and healthier way of life for all the region.
