HELPING THE POOR IN BIHAR INDIA TO SURVIVE COVID

We are watching the new variant with great concern and our medical team and volunteers are now placed on standby 

Our covid response still very much needs your support as we move towards three distinct aims

1. Access to vaccinations for rural and remote communities.
2. Rebuilding livelihoods by providing training, materials, and access to finance.
3. Access to education and wellbeing for vulnerable children who are coping with unprecedented levels of grief and anxiety, risk of exploitation, and the continuing impact of school closures.

Due your support we have been able to help hundreds of families and thousands of children and we send our heartfelt appreciation to you.

Here in India, we are happy to report that the vaccination programme is now going quite well. But the effects of Covid continue to affect the poor in Bihar.

As you know our programme includes interventions on a number of different levels...

Medical assistance

Facilitating vaccinations for the poor and vulnerable

Economic help including loans for new small-scale businesses like local shops or food vendors.

Help with accessing government help (very often the poor and vulnerable don’t have the skills to process and follow through applications)

Emergency food help for extremely poor families struggling to feed their children

Due to your help, we have been able to continue these vitally important programmes and reach out to hundreds of people. Here’s what one beneficiary had to say...

“People First have helped us so much... we got help when my husband was ill and unable to work. they provided oxygen and I m sure he would have survived without their help.

But when he recovered, they found good work for him through their employment assistance programme and at the very worst of times when my children were so hungry, they provided food. They continue to help to this day making sure we are ok and helping us get some government assistance for our children.
