This project now over a year old combines many aspects of the helping the poor in dealing with the devastating consequences of the Covid 19 pandemic here in Bihar one of the poorest states in India. Our Rescue centre in Gaya became overwhelmed with requests for help as returning migrant labourers often after walking hundreds of kilometres could not feed their children. Our emergency response saved many lives. However Covid is going to be around a long time and our response needs to be too..
Its always the poor and children of the poor that suffer. Covid has devastated poor people here in Bihar who were struggling anyway. Our initial response was an emergency programme to avoid starvation for daily labourers who now had no work. This developed into a multi pronged approach combining our resources at our rescue centre with our health team to provide PPE vaccinations and training and support for employment opportunities alongside emergency responses to avoid child starvation.
Covid will be with us for sometime. This project combines a multi pronged approach working alongside our local government contacts in developing an umbrella of care for families and children most severely affected by Covid by providing PPE arranging vaccination camps, health check ups and training and support for employment opportunities and helping children continue their education if they are unable to attend school . We have reached out to hundreds of families but we need your support .
We hope that having saved lives our opportunity and educational efforts will have a lasting lifetime effect on the poorer and vulnerable members of the community in which we serve.
