Historic rainstorms caused floods and landslides in western Japan. Damages in Okayama and Hiroshima are particularly severe. With a network with local nonprofit organization (NPO) support centers across Japan, Japan NPO Center has been coordinating staff dispatch to the support centers in affected communities to help out the necessary operations. Your support compensates the staff's transportation to and accommodation in Hiroshima & Okayama which are currently done with out of pocket expenses.
Historic rainstorms hit wide-ranging areas of western Japan, causing floods and landslides. Damages in Okayama Prefecture and Hiroshima Prefectures were particularly severe. In both prefectures more than ten ad-hoc disaster relief volunteer centers were set up. As a part of the disaster response, NPO support centers, which serve as a community hub in ordinary times, worked on coordination of volunteers, supplies and funds.
With the help of a network with NPO support centers across Japan, Japan NPO Center (JNPOC) has been coordinating staff dispatch to the support centers in affected communities to help out the necessary operations. The dispatched staff help out necessary operational areas that these NPO centers need the most -- from local disaster relief volunteer centers operation to NPO support centers' main operation which are short-staffed, due to the disaster response efforts.
This project of local NPO support center staff dispatch to the local NPO support center(s) in affected areas can be a model to be replicated in disasters in the future.
