From October 2020 to December 31st, 2020, different activities were done: trauma healing workshops, Self-help groups (SHGs), growing rice and SBS second promotion graduation.

  1. Trauma Healing Workshops

One three-day trauma healing workshop was done on September 8-10, 2020. Then, two three-day trauma healing workshops were done on October 27-30, 2020 and November 2nd-4th, 2020. Therefore three workshops were done.  Facilitators were Grace Horanimana and Gisele Misago.

“21 years of marriage full of nightmare. I got married and I spent 2 years without child. I suffered mockery from in-law family and my husband told me that he is going to be married with another wife and that my job would be raising their children.

My in-law family called me a witch but by the grace of God I was able to conceive after 2 years but because my husband had already hated me I didn’t feel joyful.

My two first children died. When I was pregnant with my third child, I had an abortion due to being poisoned by my sister-in-law.  (She gave me alcohol which contained poison). Neighbors called my husband and he refused to come to see me. Then the neighbors took me to the hospital but the child died on the road. We returned home and I spent the night with a dead body. I was very hungry because I didn’t have something to eat, I was bleeding badly and it ended up with a coma. I woke up in the hospital.

I have suffered many kinds of violence but what traumatized me so much was my two children who are mad now because of my husband's carelessness: my child was bitten by a dog which has rage illness.

I tried to go to the hospital but it was too late. When I was at the hospital, a nurse who treated my son gave me prescriptions so that everyone who had been in contact with my son can be vaccinated but my husband tore up the prescriptions and said nothing.

After that, my other son who was in the 3rd year of secondary school also became mad because he was bitten by my son who has rage then I knew that my husband didn't take them to get vaccinated. In short I have two mad boys.  I’m struggling alone to have calming medication for them.   I don't even have capacity to buy them. I also feel like a mad woman I do not control myself anymore, I am tired.”

2. Self-Help Groups

At the end of December 2020, we had a total of 115 SHGs for a total of 2688 women

3. Growing Rice

The group of women who has initiated the project of growing rice together has now cultivated rice for the second season.

 4. Street Business School (SBS)

On November 13, 2020, there was graduation of the SBS second promotion.

The graduation day was introduced by a peaceful walk in the streets and at the Kamenge public market
