Our adult literacy program in Nwoya district Uganda teaches 156 women how to read and write and build leadership skills. We want these women to raise their voices in their communities and understand that they have a right to be heard. Poverty often impacts women and their children the hardest so it’s only right that they have a say and take part in solving these challenges.
We know that this program is important for several reasons. If a woman does not know how to read and write it limits her ability to run a business, or help her children with school work, or even understand a prescription from the doctor. Women in Uganda have a lot of responsibilities within their family but family life is only part of the story. We’d like to see more female politicians and more businesswomen as well. Literacy is the key to achieving that equality.
We’ve seen lots of success with the adult literacy program but we know that we must also help young girls in order to find long term solutions to poverty. That’s why we started our healthy periods of initiative that helps young girls go to school and stay in school.
“It is not enough for women to sit in the council and sign attendance list true change will only come if we can speak our voices loud and VacNet- has given us the tools-to-day” - Rose, Chairperson
Together with you, we continue to impact women’s lives directly through our adult literacy program that you support. We believe you will continue to support us to continue this wonderful journey of supporting women to walk their way by themselves your generous donation makes this possible.
