EmpowHER: Phoenix 2024 addresses the critical issue of gender based violence (GBV) in the impoverished township of Phoenix, Durban. Our programme will empower over 500 women through targeted workshops, legal aid, and safe shelters. By creating safe space and providing essential resources, we aim to help women in Phoenix reclaim their lives and foster a safer community.
Phoenix, South Africa has a high rate of gender based violence, leaving indigent and impoverished women even more vulnerable and in need of immediate assistance. Many women lack access to resources, safe spaces, and legal support which exacerbates their vulnerability and perpetuates cycles of abuse. The community response to GBV is often inadequate, leaving survivors without the necessary support to escape and recover.
The programme will offer workshops, legal assistance, counselling, and safe shelters for women in Phoenix. By raising awareness, providing immediate resources, and creating support networks WomanPACT will empoweer women to stand against GBV. This holistic approach will help women feel safer and more supported, reducing their risk to continued abuse.
The project aims to create a safer community in Phoenix by empowering women with knowledge, resources, and support. Over time, these efforts will reduce GBV incidents, improve womens mental and physical health, and foster a community of cultureof respect and protection. As women gain the tools to combat GBV, they will be better equipped to educate and protect future generations, leading to long terms societal change.
