STOP GENDERBASED VIOLENCE: empower women in phoeni

By Pamela Padayachee | Project Lead

WomanPACT GBV Programme: Quarterly ReportSummary of Activities

Since our last report, the WomanPACT Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Programme has made significant strides in creating safer communities and empowering women to lead efforts against GBV. Our outreach initiatives focused on education, awareness, and support services, impacting over 500 women and girls across the Waterloo Community and surrounding areas.

Key activities included:

  • Community Workshops: We held 10 workshops addressing GBV awareness, self-defense training, and access to legal aid. These sessions were attended by over 250 participants.
  • One-on-One Support: Our dedicated GBV desk provided counseling and support to 40 women in crisis, connecting them to essential services such as shelters and trauma counseling.
  • Youth Engagement: We introduced a school-based program to engage young girls in discussions around consent, safety, and empowerment, reaching 120 students.

Success Story: A Life Transformed

One of the beneficiaries of our program, S, is a 32-year-old single mother who approached our GBV desk after enduring years of abuse. Through counseling and support, she gained the confidence to leave her abusive environment. With the help of our team, she secured legal protection and is now employed at our economic hub, where she assists other women in similar situations. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of community-driven initiatives.

Program Impact

Our ongoing efforts have created a ripple effect in the community:

  • Increased reporting of GBV incidents by 30% in the Waterloo area, indicating growing trust in our services.
  • Strengthened partnerships with local police and legal aid organizations to ensure swift action and support for survivors.
  • Empowered local women leaders to advocate for safer neighborhoods and educate others.

Looking Ahead

In the coming months, we aim to expand the program by:

  1. Launching a mobile GBV support unit to reach remote areas.
  2. Hosting a solidarity walk during the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV to amplify awareness.
  3. Piloting a mentorship program pairing survivors with advocates for long-term support and empowerment.

How You Can Help

Your support is vital to sustaining and expanding these life-changing initiatives. By continuing to stand with WomanPACT, you ensure that no woman faces GBV alone.

Thank you for being an integral part of this journey toward a safer, more empowered community. Together, we can make a difference.

With gratitude,
WomanPACT
