Diani Children's Village was formed in 1994 in Diani Beach Kenya. It's our aim to rescue abandoned children and babies and give them the needed care and attention that every child deserves. Over the last years the number of children who are committed to the Home and whose families or relatives are untraceable has grown tremendously. Therefore, our ultimate goal is to have every child in a stable, loving Kenyan family environment in which they can have the best possible shot at a normal life.
Most abandoned little ones are exposed to unsafe and unhygienic conditions. This makes their start in life difficult, often involving hospitalization and expert medical care. All abandoned children, whether newborns or toddlers, have experienced some form of trauma which can have a long-lasting effect. Children who are admitted at an older also age experience rejection and abandonment which affects their general well-being, performance in school and happiness all together.
The project rescues abandoned babies and toddlers and gives them the best possible care by providing shelter, food, medical care and most importantly a secure environment with loving caretakers. As the children gain their strength and health, the process of investigating the circumstances that led to a child being abandoned begins. If no immediate family members or relatives are found then we try to find suitable adoptive or foster Kenyan families.
Encourage more local families to open their arms and homes to abandoned and displaced children whether through local adoption or fostering programs.Reduce the number of children having to stay at children's homes for many years, giving them the opportunity to grow up in a family set up and creating a sense of belonging. Develop counselling sessions and support groups for local fostering and adoption families to exchange experiences and learn more on how to give their children therapeutic support
