In the past ten years, since passage of the palliative care resolution at the World Health Assembly little progress has been made in closing the Access Abyss to hospice and palliative care. Sixty million patients and their families are suffering and dying each year without access to the care they need especially in low and middle-income countries. Like this 40 year old man waiting to get treatment for his head and neck cancer in a clinic in Tajikistan. He did not have access to pain relief and returned home to die. In contrast the woman in blue is getting palliative care at the palliative care unit in Kyrgyzstan and will have relief.
WHPCA is one of only two organizations in official relations with the World Health organization advocating for palliative care to the many member states that set health policies. With your suppport we can influence WHO the UN and countries to include palliative care in their health care systems. Please be generous to help us close the Access Abyss!
