Recently published research by WHPCA found that only 14% of the global need for palliative care is being met. More shocking is the disparity between high and lower-income countries. If you live in a high-income country, you can usually get palliative care, over 50% of the need is being met. But if you live in a low or middle-income country, where 80% of the need for palliative care exists you have only a 4% chance of getting the care you need.
If you live in Africa, you have only a one percent chance of getting palliative care. The world population is ageing and the need for palliative care is growing almost as fast as our efforts to expand services. Please help us close this 'access abyss' through advocacy and building services for the sickest and most vulnerable in our communities.
