Help Ukrainian kids and families survive winter

Access to healthcare is one of the most essential human needs, and it is especially critical for families with children. That’s why we are working to ensure that even during potential power and heating outages in the cold months, critical medical services can continue operating and helping those in need.

Recently, we provided a 300 kVA generator to the Cherkasy Regional Clinical Centre for Oncology, Haematology, Transplantation and Palliative Care, and a 125 kVA generator to the Regional Centre for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine. Both institutions also received spare parts and plastic water containers to store drinking water in case of supply interruptions.

In the Kharkiv region, we delivered two high-capacity generators to the Merefa Central District Hospital, a 300-bed facility, and the Municipal City Dental Polyclinic No. 1, which serves around 30,000 patients each year.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, we have replaced nearly 2,600 square meters of windows at five educational and one medical facility that were damaged by shelling and rocket attacks. This work ensures these institutions can remain open during the cold months ahead, so that children can continue attending school or kindergarten and people can receive urgent medical care in safe conditions.

At the same time, in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions, we have already had to take emergency measures to keep residents warm and fed following recent strikes on critical infrastructure, just as the cold season set in. The attacks left the Shostka community without electricity, gas, and water. In response, warming centres were established to provide people with a place to rest, warm up, drink hot tea, charge their phones, and have a hot meal. Two field kitchens were set up, where volunteers and local cooks are preparing hot food for the community. Meals are currently being served at three separate locations, and a mobile hygiene and laundry unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross is operating at one of the sites, helping residents without water access meet their basic hygiene needs.

To be truly prepared, we must start well in advance. That’s why the Ukrainian Red Cross works year-round — even in the summer — to get ready for the cold season.

Recently we have delivered nine more mobile boilers — this time to the Vinnytsia region, adding to the more than 120 units deployed across Ukraine in 2023–2024.

The Ukrainian Red Cross has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ladyzhyn City Council and the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration. As part of this partnership, nine mobile boiler units have been donated to help ensure heating provision across the Vinnytsia region, with a particular focus on the Ladyzhyn city territorial community, where the need is most urgent. The equipment will be used to supply heat to residential buildings and community centres.

These mobile units will serve as a backup source of heating, enabling a stable supply even during emergencies or power outages. This kind of support is especially vital during wartime, when energy security becomes a critical concern.

Together, we are providing essential assistance to the most vulnerable residents of Ladyzhyn and the wider community.
