KARMIRHATH HOSPITAL, GAIBANDHA “HELP TREAT 1200 POOR DIABETIC PATIENTS”. PROJECT REPORT May 28, 2013. Extensive publicity was made to raise awareness about Diabetes during the last two months. A total of 400 diabetic patients, both new and old, attended the Diabetic Section of Karmirhath Hospital. Insulin as well as other medicines was given free to Chronic Diabetic Patients. A total of 1260 patients attended our hospital during the last 3 months; among them 95 were new patients. Necessary tests were conducted, Guide Books given and Diabetes Awareness lessons were given to them.

Case Study:

1. Asma Khatun: Asma Khatun, 45, lives about 10 km away from Karmirhath Hospital. She used to have good and happy family life with her three kids and husband. Her husband suddenly died of heart attack about two years ago. Loosing her only bread-winner member of her family, she lived a miserable life along with her kids. She got sick due to poverty. Eventually, she was diagnosed a diabetic. At the advice of a volunteer paramedic of her village, she came to Karmirhath hospital. At the hospital, she was examined by our diabetic doctor who conducted necessary tests. Guide book and necessary instructions were given to her by the doctor as well as by the dietician. Asma Khatun now regularly visits the hospital. She now maintains almost normal level of blood-sugar and almost a normal life having no other complication.

2. Fazila Begum; She is 60 years old; widow having 5 daughters and no son. The daughters work as house-maids. She developed diabetes in 2009. She took treatment at local diabetic center. She could not continue treatment there as she needed insulin and other costly medicines besides frequent tests. Somebody advised her to come to Karmirhath where free treatment are given and free tests done to poor patients including free insulin. Fazila Begum registered at Karmirhath hospital for diabetic treatment in late 2011. After extensive treatment and following the instructions of her doctor and dietician, Fazila Begum is now leading almost a normal life. She is very grateful to Karmirhath hospital and to those who pays for her treatment.
