News from your entrepreneurs in Medellin, Colombia

The community development committee
Hey there!
This is Alex from Todos Podemos in Colombia.
How have you been? Doesn't if feel like it's been a crazy year just about everywhere, AGAIN?
By the way, did you hear that Colombia has a new government? They have announced strong emphasis on addressing inequality, poverty, corruption and environmental damage. So there is some hope for the social sector here... we shall see. In the mean time, here we go with some quick news about the project Help Train Entrepreneurs in Colombian Barrios!, which you helped fund. To be entirely honest
, we've been having a hard time raising funds lately, but since we always teach our entrepreneurs that you can do alot with a little, we strive to lead by example and get things done.
Community event:
After many conversations with the team and a quick survey to assess past-trainees' interest, we decided to initiate the building of a community of social entrepreneurs.
The purpose of this community is to facilitate networking opportunities, provide additional training, incentivise collective idea generation and organize shared events / activities. With this in mind, we held a reconnection and brainstorming event, in which participated at least one entrepreneur from four different groups that we have trained.
In addition, we are excited to announce that we are buiding an online store within our website! Our past trainees to soon be able to offer their products on
todos-podemos.com! While setting this up, we are collecting applications from interested entrepreneur. Here's a preview of a product that might be available there soon. ;)
Website update:
Adding this e-commerce feature to our website is part of a larger project: Restructuring our website to offer a clearer overview of our work and a smoother user experience to our visitors. Although we are still working on creating and uploading all the information, here are some of the main changes:
- Our services are now separated according to the three groups we work with: Social Entrepreneurs, Social Organizations (public or private), and Businesses looking to contribute.
- We offer the possibility to book a call with us directly on the website.
- Perhaps the most noticeable improvement for our Anglophone friends is that we now have an English version of the website.
- Visitors have access to free downloadable guides and ressources from our main page. The first one is a monthly budget planner for entrepreneurs, but we soon will have more available.
BioCommunity video:
In my last email, I talked about the great advances of BioCommunity, who has set up a sustainable system to teach environmental awareness and to finance their educational projects by recycling plastic, glass and cardboard in Medellin's Comuna 13. Well here's a
video interview of their leader "el Figu". And maybe I shouldn't spoil the surprise, but it looks like they will be selling cool lamps made entirely from recyled materials very soon as well... Here's a picture of one of their prototypes.
That it for now. Thank you again for making all this possible!
As I mentioned at the beginning of this message, finding the ressources to train, coach and support local changemakers has been a challenge. If you are able and would like to continue helping us assist social entrepreneurs so that they can build sustainable projects and generate impact in their communities, you can do so by donating on this link: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/help-train-entrepreneurs-in-colombian-barrios/If you are interested in specifically funding the training of Venezuelan migrant women – usually young mothers – looking for a way to start a new life and participate in the Colombian economy, please go to
