From Darkness to Light: How Solar Training Transformed Mona's Life

By Yasmina | Project Leader

Mona, a 28-year-old mother from rural Idlib, faced a future filled with uncertainty after her husband was arrested in 2015. Pregnant with her son and raising her young daughter alone, she relied on the limited support her family could offer—but it was never enough.

Everything changed when Mona learned about a solar energy installation and maintenance training offered by Freedom Jasmine Organization. Despite the cultural and physical barriers—this field being traditionally dominated by men—Mona decided she had no choice but to step forward.

Once accepted into the program, she discovered not only technical knowledge, but a new sense of confidence. Through hands-on training, Mona gained the skills needed to work in a sector that has become essential in northwest Syria, where electricity is unreliable and solar panels are a lifeline for families.

Today, Mona is the first woman in her village to work in solar panel installation. She supports her two children with her income and has become the trusted technician for many women in her community—especially those who prefer a female professional for reasons of privacy and comfort.

Her work has brought more than electricity into homes; it has brought dignity, independence, and hope. Mona’s journey shows how technical training can transform lives—turning hardship into opportunity and empowering women to build a more resilient future for their families and communities.

Thank you for helping make transformations like Mona’s possible. Your support continues to open doors for women across Syria.
