Ukrainian Palliative Care Patients Receiving Help

By Dr Stephen Connor | Executive Director

Dear Friends, so far we have spent £24,283 to help our palliative care colleagues in Ukraine and neighboring countries to gett he help they need during the war. We all were hoping that peace would have come by now but it appears we need to be in for the long haul to ensure our patients there have the essential help they need including:

- Food

- Diapers

- Medicines

- Medical supplies

- counseling

Palliative care providers are really struggling and are so very appreciative of all the help they've received. Here are a few examples:

From the service in Irpin:

- food for 153 adult food sets and 30 sets of baby food.

- hygiene products, according to collected applications for 12 families and 2 local groups.

"All the wards note the appropriateness and quality of the sets, including thanks in social networks. Help is essential, because often in the same family there is a child with a disability and also a seriously ill, palliative person. The purchase of both food and hygiene products is a significant part of the budget, because many people have lost their jobs and live on welfare and social benefits. Also, a family with three children with disabilities (the eldest child is bed-ridden palliative patient) in the village received comprehensive assistance. The situation is very difficult. Systemic help is needed"

All these 6 families either have a child with severe, oncological or complex severe incurable disorders, or they have a child with a disability and a person who is still sick and on palliative care.
