Ending violence against women stays on the agenda

By Srirajni Narkiewicz | Digital Fundraiser

During the pandemic, women and girls across India have experienced an increased level of gender-based violence. With increased stress on domestic circumstances and people in the home and cramped conditions much more severe, many lives have been affected. However, our partners network across organisations to keep gender violence on the agenda, so that this 'shadow pandemic' does not go unchallenged. Networking and bringing things into the light often gives women and collectives confidence that support is there and change is possible.

In Tamil Nadu, an event was held to introduce the network to the community there and to raise awareness about what abuse can look like; to help women identify situations where they might need help. We distributed the helpline for women and the helpline for children that can be called for assistance. There were men and women present.

Earlier in the spring, our partners coordinated a 'Prevention, Reduction and Justice' three day workshop that addressed sexual violence against women, held to educate NGOs and led by experts in these fields.

Thank you for your support. Through coordinating events involving agencies such as Police, NGOs, community leaders and individuals, this network is helping to destigmatise talking about violence against women and is creating pathways of change. Your support helps make this happen.
