Jana is an American military spouse living in Spain. She loves her life there but her husband is so abusive she just feels like she can't go on. Most of the time it is verbal, but recently he has been threatening her. Jana contacted us after one night, after she told him she didn't feel like having sex, he forced himself on her, called her horrible names, then he strangled her.
We explained that strangulation can indicate a higher possiblity of lethality in domestic violence. We safety planned with Jana and gave her various options and possible outcomes of decisions that she could make.
Jana decided to return home and not tell her husband she was leaving. She arrived back in the USA and let him know she was back home. He became enraged and made some serious threats. She recorded him.
Jana is living in a domestic violence shelter in the USA so she can get her life back on track. She feels safe and supported. It's because of your donations to this project that victims like Jana have access to resources. Thank you!
