Help Stop Military Family Violence

Joanne was afraid to report the abuse of her husband to a military advocate. She knew she was in a potentially lethal situation and if she went to the advocate on the base to give a restricted report, one that is confidential, the advocate would have to override that and make it an unrestricted report. Then her husband and his commanding officer would know she had reported domestic violence and she was afraid.

Joanne called us and we were able to work with Joanne for a few weeks while she worked through all of her safety concerns. After extensive safety planning we found a safe place for Joanne to stay close to the base so she would not have to go back home after she reported the abuse. Thanks to your generous donations we were able to keep Joanne safe and her case is moving forward through military channels. Thank you so much!

2012 Gratitude, 2013 Vision

We are grateful to our expanding team of staff, volunteers and board members who use their talents every day, often under very stressful conditions, to impact the lives of thousands of American women, children and men abused in foreign countries. Our team of three case managers and six advocates work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on very complex issues and for that we are blessed.

Since our partnership began with the military in 2011, we have responded to a record number of pleas for help from Americans abused overseas connected with the the military. More and more we have provided life saving services and helped these victims get home safely to the USA.

Jessica and her son Tosh are such victims. A civilian spouse of an active service member Jessica was unable to get the full domestic violence services she would have gotten from the military if she had not been a civilian. We were able to provide safety planning, advocacy with shelters and the military advocates and after three months eventually get Jessica and her son home safe, away from her violent American military husband in Italy. The bruises on Jessica's body are gone but the emotional and psychological healing will take time.We have connected her with resources in her area and are continuing to provide counseling, advocacy and support. Jessica is thankful to be safe back in the USA with Tosh and is beginning steps to reestablish her life in the USA.

Without the contributions of donors like you it is impossible for us to provide the in-depth services to victims like Winnie in need.

In 2013 we envision peace in every home. A world where no child has to experience violence in the one place they should feel safe. Where they will learn to love and be loved with their self-esteem in tact, in both military and civilian homes.
