Project Report | Oct 23, 2024
Sustainable Sanitation and Hygiene 2023/24

By Felix Wallpach | Fundraising and Research Department

The funds received through GlobalGiving platform have been utilized together with the funding from other funding partner.

In 2023-24, NEWAH implemented 57 water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects using 121 water sources (106 springs, 10 streams, and 5 infiltration wells). NEWAH implemented sanitation and hygiene activities through continuation of the total sanitation approach to encourage sustainable behavior change in hygiene and sanitation. This involved monitoring and educating the community on hygiene and sanitation through tole education, capacity building of volunteers, child health groups, and school WASH committees. NEWAH also facilitated the construction of hygiene and sanitation facilities like drying racks, washing slabs, and hand washing stations.

In the fiscal year 2023–24, a total of 57 projects (including 5 school WASH) were executed, reaching out to 3,413 households and 38 schools, directly benefiting 29,409 people from the districts of Baglung, Myagdi, Sindhuli, and Kavre. In this regard, 3,413 water distribution points at the community level were constructed to serve 21,115 daily water users, while the ones constructed for 38 schools reached 7,931 students and 363 heath post beneficiaries. Most of the projects used simple gravity flow technology, while the remaining others utilized solar pumping and electric lifting technology.
