The tour is about to begin....
The latest statistics from Swedish KRAV’s market report shows that 98 % of all pigs in the Swedish food industry are kept indoors without the ability to fulfil their needs and interests. In order to feel good, pigs need to spend most of the day to search for food by rooting, feeding and exploring their environment. In the Swedish food industry pigs are not able to exercise their natural behaviours. On Djurens Rätts Summer Tour we want to raise awareness about the poor living situation for pigs and create a strong public opinion that wants to see pigs outdoors.
In less than a month it’s time for our Summer Tour, and this year it’s for the 12th time. This year we plan to visit 80 events in Sweden to raise awareness about animal rights and focus on pigs rights. The summer tour visits a lot of places and cities where we and our message is seldom to be seen. This is one reason why the Summer Tour is an important information campaign.
Another reason why the Summer Tour is an essential part in the work for animal rights is the focused work and campaign. Each summer tour is characterized by a big campaign that permeates the whole tour. 2017´s Summer Tour will focus on the inadequate situation for all the pigs who are suffering in the Swedish food industry. We have prepared new, printed materials that will be handed out throughout Sweden.
The Summer Tour is a huge project that engages about 100 volunteers. Next weekend, 12-14 of May, we are arranging a weekend to educate volunteers in outreach work and animal rights. With this education everyone who wants to volunteer, can feel confident to join. All these engaged people are working hard to spread the message and raise awareness for animal rights. It’s together we can make a big difference and change the future for all pigs.
