Child Rights Trust sensitized 197 individuals in the last three months through 5 Child Rights programmes in three districts of Karnataka.

The programms were organized in collaboration with universities, NGOs and educational institutions: Belgavi (4th & 5th October 2019); Bengaluru (28th & 29th August 2019 and 6th July 2019) and Kolar (4th & 5th July 2019 and 3rd October 2019).

In all these programmes participatory methods were used to involve the participants that included NGO personnel, students of social work and also representatives of Govt and initiate discussion on the status of children in the districts. Examples of interventions were taken from the participants and they were supplemented by the facilitators with statistics, programmatic information and the interventions that can be taken up. In all the programmes apart from live case studies short films were also used to elicit discussion. The participants were driven to identify the discrimination that prevails in the families, society and also in service delivery. The UNCRC articles were shared with the participants while bringing in relevance to the existing Acts such as The Prohibition of Child Marriages Act (PCMA), The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act (JJA) and etc. Many students have shown interest to take the issues related to child rights as their dissertation topics and also to get involved in community work.

All these trainings were organized in collaboration with local NGOs and Colleges also got the support from government departments by involving officers from the Dept of Women and Child Development, Education and Social Welfare.

The trainings also made it a point to introduce child protection mechanisms, programms for empowerment, schemes and encouraged participants to actively get involved in addressing the child rights violations and also report to ChildLine 1098 and / or to the police.

In Nov. we will be involved in big time observing Child Rights Week and 30 years of UNCRC. Will get back to you soon with our new plans to conduct some more trainings on Child Rights.
