Along with NGO representatives and students, we also had people from District Child Protection Unit. The programme was inaugurated by the Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee and the District Child Protection Officer, Mandya. In the two-day progamme the teams apart form discussing on child rights, showed special interest on knowing about right to education and combating the growing incidents of female feticide. We got a special bonus with the presence of Mr. Rajanna, former Chairman of the Disability Commission who described about the need for building rights perspective to address disability issues. Mr Vasudeva Sharma and Mr. Kalakappa were the resource persons handling the sessions.
The next programme was at Kalburgi University with a large number of students and NGO representatives. Although the programme was meant for selected 50 students of Social Work, the organisers felt that the programme should be reaching a large number. Mr. Bhavani Singh, District President of District Working journalists and Dr. Malipatil, Chairman and HOD Dept of Social Work inaugurated the training. While we the orgnisers and facilitators were wondering about the reach and effectiveness, the participants said that they are keen to know about the subject. What transcribed at the end was a wonderful experience. Students determined to fight out child marriage, child labour, child trafficking and particularly child sexual abuse. Thanks to heads of dept of Social Work and Sociology, Kalburgi University for facilitating the orgnaising of the programme. Mr. Vasudeva Sharma and Ms. Rajashree took the responsibility of conducting the sessions.
In the same month we went to Bidar. Thanks to Mr. Puneeth of Samrudhi Charitable Trust.
