Annual Review FY 2016-17 April 2016-March 2017

By HEMESH SHETH | Director Operations

 Dear Donor,

The year 2016-17 was a fantastic year for Arpan. Below is a brief overview of the year.

  • We overall worked with over 22,000 children and 22,000 adults marking a growth of 13% in the year.
  • Our experiment of going back to previous children whom we had done Personal Safety Education before worked well. Children were extremely appreciative of us to help aid recall by revising the personal safety messages, some children who hadn't disclosed instances of abuse previously this time found the comfort to do so and we were able to appropriately support them. A lot of children shared experiences of attempted abuse and how they were able to get away from the situation and report to an adult only because of Arpan's programme that had taught them to do so.
  • We were able to support over 1300 disclosures made by children by counselling and parental intervention.
  • Some schools were reluctant to conduct the full programme and so we innovated new ways to reach out to every single child.
  • We trained over 600 stakeholders on addressing Child Sexual Abuse in their environments including duty bearers of the Women and Child Ministry who run shelter homes for children.
  • We produced and launched the Personal Safety Education Training Kit for Grades 1 to 6 in 3 languages which was met with tremendous appreciation from the stakeholders. Demands from all over the country are flowing in.
  • We participated in 2 international conferences and our work was applauded. We disseminated our materials to individuals and orgs from 56 countries.
  • We were awarded the C. Henry Kempe Award by ISPCAN, USA for doing significant work on Child Abuse at Calgary, Canada.
  • We grew to a team of 65 people and invested in building a strong senior leadership.
  • We generated an income of INR 5.6 cr and spent INR 4.1 cr.

Also please find attached herewith FY1617, program & fund utilization report specific to your funding.

Please do take a few minutes to go through the visual journey of 2016-17 and the finances in the attachment. We would love to hear your feedback. Thank you so much for your significant support to Arpan. We so appreciate it.

Warm regards,

Hemesh Sheth
