Help Nepali Girls' Fight Early Marriage and GBV

The Women Welfare Foundation is pleased to share continued progress on the project Help Nepali Girls Fight Early Marriage and GBV during the period August–October 2026.

In these three months, we directly reached over 210 people and indirectly influenced more than 2,400 community members through awareness and mobilization activities. Our work continues to strengthen community understanding of the harms of early marriage and gender-based violence while encouraging practical action to protect girls.

Key Activities:

- Street Drama Performances: We organized three street dramas in Bagnaha and neighboring wards of Thakurbaba Municipality. Each performance drew 140–180 attendees, including women, adolescent girls, parents, youth, local leaders, teachers, and police officers. The dramas sparked active discussions on prevention and community responsibility.

- Radio Program Continuation: Building on the earlier “Girls’ Rights, Brighter Futures” series, we aired additional episodes focusing on parental roles, legal protections, and real community stories. The broadcasts reached an estimated 10,000+ listeners across Bardiya and nearby areas.

- Community Dialogue Sessions: We held five small-group follow-up meetings with parents, youth, and local stakeholders who attended previous events. These sessions focused on practical steps to delay marriage and respond to GBV cases.

Families and local leaders continue to show greater openness to prioritizing girls’ education and delaying marriage. Several parents have shared that the activities helped them rethink traditional practices and support their daughters’ continued schooling.
