Social Sustainability: Progress Report

Dear Friends & Supporters,

We are pleased to share encouraging progress from Bahini Educare Foundation’s “Social Sustainable Futures Program,” launched to help vulnerable single mothers and daughters move from dependency toward sustainable livelihoods and financial independence.

During this reporting period, the program successfully supported vocational training, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship initiatives, and financial literacy activities across both BEF 1 (Kaski) and BEF 2 (Tanahun).

Key Progress Highlights

5 families launched small poultry businesses and successfully completed their first sales cycle.
4 daughters completed nationally recognized vocational training through Pokhara Technical School (CTEVT).
5 beneficiaries are now earning regular income through hospitality jobs, retail work, internships, and entrepreneurship.
Financial literacy sessions were conducted for mothers, and all participating women now maintain active bank accounts.
BEF secured its first local government co-investment for livelihood support through Ghiring Rural Municipality.

The program continues to demonstrate that with practical skills, mentorship, and seed support, vulnerable families can begin building stable and dignified futures for themselves.

In the coming phase, BEF plans to expand livelihood opportunities into tailoring enterprises, vegetable farming, livestock support, and small grocery businesses while continuing to strengthen employment pathways and seed-funding mechanisms.

Poultry Farming Support Initiative
Breaking Cycles of Poverty by Empowering Single Women

Introduction

At Bahini Educare Foundation, we believe that lasting change begins when women gain the means to support themselves with dignity.

This poultry farming support initiative was designed as a practical step toward that goal. Implemented in Kaski and Tanahun, the program supported single women and women-led households to start small-scale poultry farming using Giriraj (local) chicken chicks. These women are not looking for charity. They are looking for opportunity.

By providing the right resources at the right moment, this initiative helps families move away from daily survival and toward stable, independent livelihoods. It directly reflects the spirit of our sustainable project: breaking cycles of poverty by empowering single women.

Purpose of the Program

This initiative was designed with clear and long-term objectives:

To support single women and vulnerable mothers in building self-employment
To promote small-scale poultry farming as a sustainable livelihood option
To increase household income and food security
To strengthen confidence, skills, and economic independence

For these families, poultry farming is not just an income activity. It is a pathway to stability and self-belief.

Target Beneficiaries

The program supported five women-led households from Kaski and Tanahun districts.
(All names have been removed for privacy reasons.)

These women were selected based on vulnerability, motivation, and their willingness to actively manage poultry farming as a long-term income source.

Support Provided by Bahini Educare Foundation

Each family received a complete poultry farming starter package, ensuring they could begin immediately and sustainably:

1 poultry coop
25 Giriraj chicken chicks
2 feeders
2 water pots
75 kg of poultry feed per family (starter, grower, and finisher feed)
Vitamins and basic supplements
Essential medicines (provided where required based on chick age)

This comprehensive support ensured that women were not left to struggle after distribution. Instead, they were equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed.

Partnership with Local Government

Strong community partnerships are key to sustainable impact. The Ghiring Rural Municipality committed financial support for poultry feed for two beneficiary families living within its jurisdiction.

This local-level collaboration strengthens ownership, reinforces sustainability, and ensures that women are not walking this journey alone.

Activity Process

The program followed a careful, participatory process:

Meetings were held with mothers to understand their interest and long-term plans
Five motivated women were selected based on readiness and commitment
A short orientation on poultry farming was provided with technical guidance from livestock experts
Coordination was carried out with local municipalities for complementary support
Poultry chicks and essential materials were distributed
Regular follow-up and home visits were conducted to monitor progress, chick health, and coop management

This hands-on approach builds both skills and confidence, allowing women to take ownership of their livelihoods.

Conclusion

This poultry farming initiative is a small but powerful example of how poverty cycles can be broken when women are trusted, supported, and empowered.

With a modest investment, five women now have a growing income source, improved household nutrition, and renewed confidence in their ability to provide for their families. These are the kinds of changes that last beyond a single intervention.
