Dear friends,

First and foremost, we hope that you and your families are well and healthy!

We are very happy to inform you that, despite current challenges, our project “Give Mexican Children with Cancer the Gift of Life” has been funded.

In Mexico, child cancer is the leading cause of disease-related death among the little ones. Each year, there are around 5,000 new cases and the survival rate is around 50%. However, since 1990, “Casa de la Amistad” (“House of Friendship”) has helped more than 12,700 low-income girls, boys and young people who suffer from cancer in Mexico, by providing a custom-made, comprehensive and free of cost treatment. None of this would have been possible without your help.

We would like to say thank you, to each and every one of you. Thank you, for your great sense of commitment, solidarity and care. Thank you, for supporting our cause and letting us continue our endeavour. Thank you, for every donation that meant a medicine, a bed, a plate of food… a day of gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you a million times over!

We sincerely hope that we can continue to collaborate with you and together, give children the gift of life! In order to do so, we invite you to check out our other projects, as well as our website and social networks:

Emotional Support

Hi! We hope you are doing well :)

This last month we achieved great results thanks to each and every one of you -none of them would have been possible without your great sense of humanity. Thank you, thank you, thank you a million times over!

Therefore, we would like to share with you a brief report of our work together.

Facts and Stats of Children in Mexico

  • 5,000 diagnostics every year
  • 59.27% without social security
  • 30-60% of survival rate

Results of Our Efforts with Children and Their Families in Mexico

  • 1,221 in active treatment
  • 4,621 in remission (observation)
  • 12,747 in more than 30 years

Now, let’s leave numbers aside and introduce you to a great person who is part of our community: Alejandro’s mom

"I was born in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, and I lived and worked there my entire life; also, I have three small children, but recently, the middle one got sick. No one knew what was happening to him, so we had to take him to a hospital in Mexico City. There, they found colon cancer and referred us to CDLA, where we have received a lot of support in the process. Now, I see another way of life. I am infinitely grateful to the foundation.”

Have a nice day and we'll be in touch!

"I was diagnosed with cancer on October 2, 2017 at the Hospital Infantil de México.

After 9 months of chemotherapy, they decided to give me a bone marrow transplant, and then they sent me to Casa de la Amistad to shelter me since my house was not suitable for me to live there.

I thank you very much for all the support that Casa de la Amistad gives me and for my medicines, food, shelter and all the services you provide, as well as the transportation support, which allow me to go to the hospitals and my home to continue with my treatment.

Keep getting many smiles from these little angels.

Thanks a lot!"

In Casa de la Amistad, we are very grateful for your support and wanted to share with you some of our insights:

  • In Mexico we have 5,000 new cases of childhood cancer every year.
  • Childhood Cancer is the leading cause of death due to illness in children among 5 to 14 years.
  • In Mexico the survival rate oscillates between 30% and 60%.

In 30 years of history, Casa de la Amistad has supported:

  • More than 11,500 low in-come families with child cancer.
  • Currently more than 4,100 children and youth receive follow-up care.
  • Currently more than 1,300 children and youth are under active and integral treatment.

Abril Smile
Abril Smile

Abril is a 14 years old teenage, her diagnosis is ovarian dysgerminoma. Her mother, Leticia, says that she became aware of her daughter's illness due to weight and hair loss. It was a very difficult situation for them, since they did not have enough resources to treat such an expensive disease.

Leticia tells us that receiving the support of Casa de la Amistad has been a blessing.

“The process of my daughter's illness helped me to become more aware and more human.
Here we feel like it were a single family who shelter us and make no distinctions, they all treat us the same and welcome us warmly.
My daughter Abril's dream is to finish a career as a physical therapist on the other side, my dream it that she ring the bell because she beat cancer.
I invite all donors not to stop supporting and inviting others to join the cause.
Thank you very much for all the support”- Leticia

With your donation, we help low-income children in Mexico access cancer treatment. Because parents consistently report financial burden as the main reason for treatment abandonment.

From Casa de la Amistad, we provide free-of-cost cancer medications, lodging, warm nutritional meals, groceries, clothing and educational programs to families affected by pediatric cancer. The support we provide makes oncological treatment possible and gives children their best opportunity of conquering cancer.
