IoT Boys’ Dormitory Project – Quarterly Progress Report
Reporting Period: June – August 2026
Project Progress Update
During the current three-month reporting period, progress on the IoT Boys’ Dormitory project has remained slower than anticipated due to inadequate funding to complete the upper floor slab. Although the project has successfully progressed through earlier stages of construction, the funds available during this quarter have not been sufficient to procure all the required materials and meet the construction costs necessary to complete this critical stage.
We sincerely appreciate the generous support received so far, which has enabled the project to reach its current stage. However, additional funding is still urgently required to complete the upper slab and allow construction to proceed to the subsequent phases.
Project Overview
The dormitory is being constructed at the IoT Main Campus and is designed to accommodate 120 boarding students. Due to limited land availability, the facility is being developed as a two-storey building comprising 20 cubicles, with each cubicle designed to accommodate six students.
Once completed, the facility will significantly increase the Institute’s boarding capacity and provide students with a safer, more suitable and conducive environment for accommodation and learning.

Progress During the Quarter
During the June–August reporting period, efforts have continued towards advancing the dormitory project. However, limited financial resources have affected the pace of construction, particularly the completion of the upper floor slab.
The project team has continued to assess available resources and prioritize essential construction requirements while awaiting additional funding. The focus remains on mobilizing the resources necessary to complete the slab so that the project can move forward without further significant delays.
Current Funding Challenge
The principal challenge during this quarter has been insufficient funding for the completion of the upper floor slab. This stage requires substantial quantities of construction materials, labour and other related inputs.
Without adequate funding, it has not been possible to complete the upper slab within the initially anticipated timeframe. Additional financial support is therefore essential to maintain the project's momentum and enable the next stages of construction to commence.
Community and Student Involvement
The project continues to be implemented by Got Matar Community Development Group (GMCDG), drawing on its experience in successfully supporting and implementing infrastructure projects within the IoT campus.
IoT staff and students continue to participate in various aspects of the project, including the fabrication of bunk beds, tables, windows and other items required for the dormitory.
This hands-on participation provides students with valuable practical experience and opportunities to apply their technical skills while also creating avenues for income generation.
Environmental Sustainability and Safety
The dormitory incorporates several measures designed to promote environmental sustainability and enhance student safety.
The planned solar-powered electricity system, together with storage facilities, will provide an environmentally friendly source of energy. Guttering and water storage tanks will support rainwater harvesting, helping to conserve water and reduce reliance on other water sources.
The building design also incorporates appropriate fire-safety measures and emergency evacuation provisions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students once the facility is occupied.
Way Forward
The immediate priority for the next reporting period is to mobilize sufficient funding to complete the upper floor slab. Completion of this stage will allow the project to proceed to roofing and other subsequent construction and finishing activities.
We therefore continue to appeal to our donors, partners, well-wishers and friends of Got Matar for additional support towards this important project. Continued financial assistance will enable the project to regain momentum and move closer to completion.
We remain deeply grateful for the support received to date. Every contribution has played an important role in bringing this project forward, and we remain optimistic that, with sufficient additional funding, the dormitory will eventually be completed and made available to accommodate students.
