The IoT Boys’ dormitory preparation for ground floor slab which includes; purchasing of materials and tools is ongoing at its main campus.
The dormitory accommodates 120 boarding boys and is located at the IoT main campus. Due to the scarcity of available land, it is being constructed as a two-storey building, consisting of 20 cubicles, each of which will have beds for 6 students. The project provides for all actions required to enable the new facility to become fully usable, including the construction of the main building and related elements (including bathrooms and toilets), as well as all required furnishing and equipment. In keeping with the Community’s environmental policies, provision is made for a solar-powered electricity generation and storage system as well as guttering and tanks for collecting and storing rainwater. Measures are also included to reduce the risks of fires and to enable easy evacuation of the building in the case of a fire.
The project will be implemented by GMCDG, drawing on its successful experience in completing all of the buildings on the IoT campus. IoT staff and students participate in the process of construction and making furniture (e.g., bunks, tables, windows, etc), gaining practical experience in applying the skills taught on the site and providing them with a valuable source of income. The new building is expected to be ready for use within 1 year of the start of construction.
