The IoT Boys’ dormitory ground floor column bases work is complete at its main campus.
The dormitory is for 120 boarding boy students and is located on the IoT main campus. Because of the scarcity of available land, it is under construction as a two storey building, consisting of 20 cubicles, each of which would have beds for 6 students. The project provides for all actions required to enable the new facility to become fully usable, including the construction of the main building and related elements (including bathrooms and toilets): as well as all required furnishing and equipment. In keeping with the Community’ environmental policies, provision is made for a solar powered electricity generation and storage system as well as guttering and tanks for collecting and storing rainwater. Measures are also included to reduce the risks of fires and to enable easy evacuation of the building in the case of a fire.
The project will be implemented by GMCDG, drawing on it successful experience in completing all of the building on the IoT campus. IoT staff and students participate in the process in construction and making furniture (e.g. bunks, tables, windows etc) gaining practical experience in applying the skills taught on the site and providing them with a valuable source of income. The new building is expected to be ready for use within 1 year of the start of construction.
