Empowering Displaced Women in DR Congo

By ALLIANCE SOLA | Cordinator

Years of conflict in North Kivu have forced many families to flee their homes and seek safety in displacement camps around Goma. For displaced women and girls, rebuilding their lives is especially difficult. Many have lost their sources of income and the support networks they once relied on. Meeting basic needs, including food, healthcare, and education for their children, remains a daily struggle.

Our project, Help Displaced Women Start Businesses in Congo, aims to support 100 vulnerable women and girls living in the Don Bosco displacement camps near Goma. Through practical training in tailoring, baking, small business management, and entrepreneurship, participants will gain skills to start small businesses and earn a reliable income. Each participant is also expected to receive startup support, tools, and mentoring to help turn these skills into sustainable livelihoods. The project is currently in its preparation phase, with the identification of trainers and participants underway. Training activities are expected to begin soon, as resources are mobilized.

The total project budget is $25,000, and $0 has been raised so far. We are grateful to GlobalGiving for partnering with us and helping connect this initiative with a wider community of international supporters. With continued fundraising and the generosity of donors, we believe we can move forward with this project and create meaningful opportunities for women who have been deeply affected by displacement. We invite individuals, organizations, and compassionate supporters around the world to contribute. Every donation, whatever its size, can help a woman take a step toward financial independence, provide for her children, and rebuild her future with dignity. Thank you to GlobalGiving and to every donor who chooses to stand with displaced women in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Your support can help turn this vision into a reality.
