Dear Friends,
Thank you for standing with Ukraine’s children and supporting hospitals under attack, whose care is vital to their lives.
After the attack on Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, Zaporuka team mobilized immediately to ensure these little patients could continue receiving critical treatment, as they were transferred to other hospitals in Kyiv, such as the 1st Clinical Hospital, the Institute of Neurosurgery, and the Institute of Cancer. These facilities were unprepared for the sudden influx of patients, urgently needing medical beds, infusion pumps, vital signs monitors, an ultrasound machine, and a range of necessary medicines and supplies. With the support of many people like you, we could quickly address children's needs.
Among these children is 9-month-old Sofia, who has spent most of her life in hospitals. She was receiving specialized care at Okhmatdyt and awaiting a critical surgery when the attack struck, forcing her and her mother, Kateryna, to leave. Due to the stress and sudden relocation, Sofia’s condition worsened. She needed to restart treatment at the Institute of Neurosurgery. Through it all, Okhmatdyt’s doctors remained closely connected with the new team, ensuring a seamless transition in her care. For her mother Kateryna, it was a great relief that Sofiyka could continue treatment, with her family looking forward to the day they could be reunited at home.
As the debris was cleared at Okhmatdyt, the doctors resumed treating children whenever possible. With your support, we delivered the necessary medicines and supplies, ensuring doctors could continue their work. In the long term, Zaporuka’s president, Natalia Onipko, has joined the Advisory Council for the Restoration of Okhmatdyt, bringing her expertise to support the hospital’s rebuilding. Meanwhile, Okhmatdyt’s damaged facilities have been secured for winter, and the hospital remains dedicated to saving children’s lives.
Your generous contributions made this rapid response possible, providing critical resources and hope during a time of tremendous need. Thank you for helping keep children's care in Ukraine alive.
