Last February 14th, we commemorated the International Day of Children Cancer with our biggest event: the Walk of Light. On that day, the governor of Atlántico, our department, Eduardo Verano, initiated a fundraising campaign to raise money to buy the house. This became to us our next goal to accomplish. On that afternoon of our walk, many people who accompanied us, agreed to support this dream. Therefore, we started to raise money little by little until we will have enough to pay for the down payment of the house. We wish that by next year (2017) and on our fourth version of our Walk of Light, we can announce that we are able to accomplish this dream of acquiring the house.
Few months after our biggest event in which our governor started a fundraising campaign we have received approximately $2.5 dollars, this is not enough for us to buy the house, we continue working every day to reach our goal of buying the house to continue helping this children and their families that need us.
Currently, the house where we are functioning is not ours, so we have to pay a monthly rent. We want to receive help of all of those people who support our foster home so that we can add up and achieve our dream of buying this house. This will allow us to assure for ever a place for these children to stay during the time the doctor requires them to.
The house where the foundation is situated has 718m2 and fosters 13 children, each with one guardian. Besides the bedrooms, it is made up of a playroom, an interior patio, two living rooms, an office, an infirmary, a psychology office, a kitchen and a dining room. The commercial pricing is set at $630 million pesos or approximately $200,000 dollars. Currently we pay a monthly rent of $3.2 million pesos or approximately $1000 dollars. Our goal and dream is to buy this house.
Our goal is to finish this 2016 and start an excellent 2017 with our own house where we give free food and shelter to the children cancer patients who come from all over the Colombian Caribbean Coast to receive their treatment in Barranquilla.
