Over two years ago, I realized a need in an impoverished community in Nassau, Bahamas while running a marine science educational program. I was a foreigner in a not so distant land. Many individuals in this area yearned for their children to grow up in a community filled with more activities and opportunties.
After many meetings and some hard work we began to plan to make the dream a reality through a youth center in the immediate area that would allow other nonprofits, schools, and individuals to come into this once gang filled community to offer amazing opportunties.
This youth center development project is special because we have worked hard to form bonds with other nonprofits and collaborate with other individuals throughout the Bahamas to make the project sustainable and to rally collective action around our common goal. This month we will begin the next phase of demolition in order to prepare the land for construction to take place in the next few months.
I am very excited and proud to be writing you to share the good news and thank you for your support along the way. If you can, please consider supporting once again as we take the next step. Also, please feel free to write me with any ideas you may have for the future center. I look forward to the day when you can visit Nassau and come see the great project you helped bring to fruition.
On a side note, I have included a picture of one of the young girls we supported recently through the foundation in the Bahamas. She placed 8th last year out of 200 girls in an international track tournament in Florida and now in the next few days will be competing in the junior Olympics in Florida. We look forward to supporting many more young ladies like Jasmine!
Thank you.
