Help a Tanzanian Orphan Complete Primary School

As we approach the year end, we want to thank our donors who have - over the last couple years - provided an education for AnaGrace, Susan and Ines.  Your generous giving has secured their primary school education and given us the hope that a new student will join our GlobalGiving project before 2015.  Because of you, these girls have the chance that they deserve in life and in learning.

The GLK Student Fund would like to take a moment to update you on our scholarship student, Ines, who joined us this year (photo in school uniform above).  She has been doing well in her primary school studies at Kibeta English Medium Primary School (KEMPS). Her dream is to become a Nurse.  Her Teacher, Lucy, says that she is doing well relative to other students and that she will continue on to Standard 2 in January 0f 2015.

Ines expressed her wish to stay at KEMPS as a boarding student instead of day scholar.  She has said that, by staying in boarding she will perform better in a good environment because her home not conducive to study.  We are considering this request and the additional funding it would require. 

Help us support Ines to ensure that she has an environment appropriate for study.  As you plan your year-end giving, we ask you to remember AnaGrace, Susan, Ines and our new candidate.  You can make all the difference in their futures!

Dear Supporters,

We just wanted to provide you with a brief update on how all of our students are doing.

Anagrace is doing well in fourth grade and is coming up on the Standard Four National Exams this year.  She has another three and a half years left of primary school. She is also doing enjoying art as you can see by the photo of life of her home in Bukoba that she has sent us.

Ines and Susan are also doing well. They are enrolled in first grade and preschool respectively and are thrilled to be attending their new schools.  Because of you, they are happy to be in great schools and receiving a solid education in Tanzania, but unfortunately, this is not the norm.

According to the World Bank the GDP in 2012 is $612 in Tanzania. With the annual cost of private schooling costing a substantial portion of the averange family's yearly income, a decent education is often inattainable for most families.  While government schools are available, they are often plagued with over-crowding, inadequate resources, ill-prepared or even absent teachers. The schooling they receive at government schools is often no type of education at all. While we are happy to announce that we've succeeded in getting three young girls into great educational programs in Tanzania, there are still many more that need our help.
