This project will help 300 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Ghana prevent and manage anemia through maternal nutrition education, access to anemia screening, and referrals to qualified health professionals. The project will promote iron-rich foods and connect mothers who need treatment with appropriate healthcare services, helping protect maternal health and support healthier pregnancies and recoveries.
Anemia is an important maternal health concern in Ghana, particularly among mothers in underserved communities who may have limited access to nutritious foods, health education, and essential healthcare services. During pregnancy, anemia can increase the risk of maternal complications, premature birth, and low birth weight. Limited awareness of iron-rich foods, the importance of antenatal care, and early detection can make the problem more difficult to address.
Adjah Cancer Support Ghana will support 300 mothers in underserved communities through maternal nutrition education and anemia prevention activities. The project will provide practical information on affordable, iron-rich foods, balanced diets, and the importance of antenatal care. Mothers will learn to recognize possible signs of anemia and understand the importance of seeking medical advice, screening, and treatment when necessary.
The project aims to improve maternal health outcomes by equipping 300 mothers in Ghana with the knowledge and skills to reduce their risk of anemia. In the long term, participating mothers may make healthier food choices, seek antenatal care earlier, and access timely screening and treatment when needed. Improved awareness can also benefit their families as mothers share nutrition and health information within their communities.
