Provide Education for 100 Students in Philippines

The Commission on Higher Education has already issued its memorandum that all educational insitutions in the Philippines are now allowed to hold face to face classes. After COVID-19 has extremely made a serious disruption worldwide especially in the field of education,  there is now a need for more healthcare professionals which has led to the surge of the nursing program.  We are all aware that a nurse's primary duty is to provide hospital patient care.  

The experience of a global pandemic has inspired many to make a significant change in their lives that could make a difference to countless of other lives.  The applications for the nursing program afe exceedingly competitive with requirements of high grades, being waitlisted, getting denied, the complexities of entrance examinations, captivating essays and even strong recommendations from previous professors in the field.

The university has experienced severe cuts in state funding, tuition, grant funding, revenue resources.  Students were not exempted from the demand for financial resources like the demand for food, housing and technology due to the shift in the educational paradigm turning the learning process all online.

Today, that enrolment for the nursing program has staggeringly increased, the university's dilemna is finding a bigger space to be able to accommodate all applications most especially of the university's goal to give opporunities to the financially challenged but intellectually gifted.

To be able to realize this dream for these students, the university has given up its dormitory to be converted into classrooms for the nursing program.  The challenge is the funding for its renovation which GlobalGiving donors have been a part of.  Donations now are being used to renovate the rooms into classrooms so we may be able to accommodate all applications most especially giving a chance to those whose families experienced financial hardships through the pandemic which has also led to the loss of tuition funding.

The directive of the new Secretary of the Department of Education approved by the newly elected President of the Philippines mandated for all private and public schools to start rolling out face to face classes for the Academic year 2022 - 2023.  Data is backed up by a Pulse Asia Survey that 94% of Filipinos agree with student learning face to face in a classroom setting.

Now on its 73rd year of giving quality education to the poor and deserving youth, Foundation University has finally opened its doors to its students on August 22, 2022. It firmly believes that students are able to concentrate more and learn more in a familiar and traditional classroom situation having less distraction.  Face to face classes ensure a better understanding and recollection of the lesson content.  A face to face interaction with the teacher is better for the learning process while the students are able to grow socially because they have a good chance to bond with each other.

This welcome change from the pandemic has brought so much relief and joy to our students who have been mainly supported by donations.  They are called student assistants who qualify for the student assistance program where they come from very financialy challenged families but are intellectually gifted.  These students serve the university in turn by rendering a number of work hours a week to help out in several departments doing either secretarial duties or campus maintenance.

The academic year opened with a program where administrators were properly introduced.  We also got to listen to the hopes and dreams of our student scholars in all levels of the education program of the university.  We saw so much potential in these students that we will always be in need of donations and sponsors for them like the GlobalGiving Organization and its donors which has supported Foundation University through the years.
