This is a journey to bring hope to the lives of 30 children with disabilities in Albania's remote villages, where poverty and stigma are trying to steal their childhoods. With no roads, services, or support, they are left without care. Our mobile team of therapists reaches them at home, delivering specialized therapy, family counseling, and tailored development plans. Beyond care, we connect them to specialized centers, opening the door to social inclusion, dignity, and independence.
One in 10 children in Albania has a disability, yet in remote areas, nearly all lack access to essential services. Poverty, distance, and lack of transportation make care unreachable. In Librazhd's villages, where we have identified these 30 children, the situation is even worse. Beyond poverty and isolation, stigma makes the families of disabled children face shame and prejudice, forcing many to hide their children from the world, depriving them of the care and inclusion they deserve.
A specialized team of 4 child therapists and social workers, travel daily to the villages of Librazhd and visit 30 children in their homes. The team designs individual development plans for each child with disabilities and deliver therapies tailored to their needs every week. The families receive emotional support and counseling to overcome stigma. Additionally, transportation helps children to access the only specialized center in Librazhd, aiding their social integration and independence.
This project is conducted in partnership with the Municipality of Librazhd and public social services to ensure long-term impact. We are already working with the municipality to operate a community center in Librazhd that provides services for children with disabilities, but we aim to reach even more children. Additionally, we focus not only on the child as an individual but also on their families, communities, and institutions to ensure lasting change.
