During 2024, Fundación Oír es Vivir conducted two hearing health campaigns targeting vulnerable communities in Panama City. These activities aimed to provide specialized care to underprivileged children, enabling the early detection of hearing issues and the implementation of appropriate solutions.
A total of 273 children received comprehensive hearing assessments during the two campaigns, designed to detect potential hearing loss or related issues.
Following the campaigns, a second phase was carried out in a controlled environment, where hearing tests were repeated for all 273 children. This allowed for more accurate diagnoses and confirmed the cases requiring additional follow-up.
Of the children assessed, 15% did not pass the hearing tests, highlighting the need for a third intervention phase.
During this phase, we worked closely with specialists to ensure the provision of hearing aids and to outline the necessary steps to improve these children's quality of life and auditory development.
These campaigns not only identified and addressed critical cases but also provided tangible solutions that will transform the lives of the children and their families. Furthermore, they raised awareness about the importance of hearing health in vulnerable communities and emphasized the value of early intervention and treatment.
