Support MFA in its efforts to transport and distribute high-quality pregnancy supplements and provide reproductive care to displaced women throughout northeast Syria. MFA operates in the opposition-held territories of northern Syria.
The prevalence of malnutrition is a major public health concern throughout Syria, and has a disproportionate and devastating impact on pregnant & lactating women and their infants. A recent survey indicated that 40% of pregnant & lactating women were consuming sub-optimal diets and 56% were anemic. Maternal anemia increases the risk of low birth weight, pre-term birth and perinatal mortality, all which require interventions related to improving maternal nutritional status during pregnancy.
This project aims to send and distribute a shipping container of high-quality, halal-certified Kirk Humanitarian multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) throughout the region, which are proven to enhance maternal nutrition. In order to reach as many women as possible, they will be distributed via MFA's primary healthcare center and in partnership with peer organizations in the area. At MFA's primary healthcare center will also provide FREE reproductive health services to expectant mothers.
This shipment will support the nutrition of 129,000 healthy pregnancies as well as support FREE reproductive health services to expectant mothers in northeast Syria.
