Children are at risk in the kitchen. They are close to their mothers while she cooks over open fires. Burns are common and toxic smoke causes pneumonia, especially in children under the age 5.
Besides the health problems, open fire cook stoves devastate local forests. Women are the ones who forage for the wood, often having to walk hours away from home to find the wood.
The solution is a cookstove that is vented and safe. The Chapina stove uses 70% less wood than an open fire cookstove and vents the smoke out of the kitchen.
The Chapina stove costs only $165 and immediately creates a healthy kitchen. It's not an expensive solution.
We have proof! We visited homes in rural Guatemala in August, 2023. We witnessed Chapina stoves that were installed 6 and 7 years ago and the stoves are still operating efficiently.
Testimonials from the women using the stoves included
"My kitchen is clean, I don't have headaches, and I no longer worry about my son and daughter in the kitchen with me"
"I use only 10 pieces of wood for the entire day. The smoke from the old stove gave me headaches. I don't have headaches now"
You can create a healthy kitchen and help a family for only $165.
