How the Health Fund Is Making a Difference

By Helena Murphy | Communications and Fundraising Manager

This year, CasaSito’s Health Fund has provided crucial support to young people by covering outpatient medical exams, medications, and treatment costs to the most urgent and vulnerable cases and worked closely with families to ensure that essential health needs are met, allowing young people to stay healthy and continue their studies.

In Guatemala, some treatments are not covered by the public health system, for many there are long waiting lists for treatement that puts people in further risk of health deterioration, and medication and follow up medical appointment costs are often far beyond what the average family can afford.

We continue to face challenges: there are often more young people in need than resources available, and we must carefully prioritize and provide continuous follow-up for those receiving support. Access to care also remains a concern, as medical centers in the municipality are few and charge high fees, often forcing families to seek care in neighboring towns. For this reason, we are deeply grateful for our partnership with Hospital Betania in Cobán, which enables young people to receive quality medical attention at affordable costs.

Your support helps us ensure that health challenges do not interrupt the education or well-being of young people.

When Alma lost a tooth and her family couldn’t afford further treatment, she began to be bullied at school. “Every day I believed what people said, and my insecurities grew,” she recalled. After sharing her situation with CasaSito staff, she received emotional support from the team and financial assistance through the Health Fund to replace her tooth. “When they placed it, I felt confident again, my insecurities disappeared,” she shared. Alma says she now feels happy, secure, and deeply grateful for the support that helped her regain her confidence.
