Within the context of health promotion and disease prevention in children and adolescents of Hogar Bambi Venezuela, with the support of different specialists (pediatrician, dermatologist, gastroenterologist, orthopedic surgeon, and general surgeons) we developed a campaign called “Jornada de Medicina amor Venezuela” (Medicine Day love Venezuela) where the doctors performed the necessary medical checkup to the children at the institution.
They performed healthy child consultation and specialized follow up consultations to those children who had any disease and were under medical treatment. Also, lab tests for follow up, and the immunizations for children were reinforced with the vaccines suggested by the Venezuelan Society of Pediatrics and Childcare and also those in the National Immunizations System, achieving 2 to 3 vaccines for the children during the year according to the immunogens. Additionally, the health staff attending babies was vaccinated against pertussis and influenza virus in order to minimize the risks.
As the closing balance of the year 2019, we achieve an improvement in the medical supplies requested/received to attend the children’s diseases, and in this way, we could maintain the good health in the houses.
For all of the above, we reaffirm our gratitude for all the support received that contributes to the wellbeing of the 120 children and adolescents sheltered at Hogar Bambi Venezuela.
Continuing with the actions aimed to promote health, in partnership with another organization, we developed a dental screening day, to prevent and to attend the appearance of cavity and other oral diseases (gingivitis, infections, bleedings, halitosis, and others) among the children protected at Hogar Bambi, benefiting a total of 80 children and adolescents. Also, the medical team of the institution conducted preventive medical consultations of healthy children, maintaining the monitoring of cases and lab studies of the new children and of those children that have presented health problems. In the same way, the pediatrics department carried out the evaluations and the certifications of healthy children, required by the schools for the next academic year 2019-2020. At this time, medical attention is offered to a total of 94 children, tracking new incomes to improve their health because of the difficult health situation in which they come to the institution like malnutrition, lack of prenatal care and of vaccines. From Hogar Bambi, we confirm our gratitude for the contributions received through GlobalGiving and we hope we can continue counting on them so we can be able to offer timely and quality medical attention to the kids.
The vulnerability of the kids that came to Hogar Bambi during this year due to their lack of nutrition, poor medical assistance, slow psychological development, are some of the reasons why it is mandatory to maintain and expand our projects oriented to satisfying basics needs related to health, education, nutrition, shelter, clothes.
Specifically, in the health area, the population attended during this period needed many actions oriented to prevention, attention, treatments, rehabilitation and health recovery, to minimize the physical and development risk of the children. Among those actions are vaccines for the smallest ones, elaboration of medical records of the new children, pediatric, dentistry, orthopedic, psychological and other specialized evaluations, laboratory exams, and many others. At present we are giving medical attention to 98 children.
From Hogar Bambi, we are very thankful for the contributions received and for the support we have received through Global Giving, and we hope we can keep counting on it so we can be able to offer the kids that come to Hogar Bambi appropriate medical attention to guarantee the best health for our children.
Recently, especially in the last two months, the living conditions of the less privileged families in Venezuela have worsened significantly. The constant failure in the electricity service has been in the news worldwide. These failures also have had terrible consequences on the service of water pipe fitting in poor neighborhoods, which already was very spoiled.
The lack of potable water brought important insalubrity conditions, which means more problems for the poorest homes in Venezuela. In the last months, the amount of abandoned children in Venezuela has increased because families do not have the necessary resources to offer to their children the basic living conditions. Furthermore, the conditions in which the children arrive at our institution are very deplorable; many of them have infectious diseases because of the use of non-potable water. This situation forces us to be even more careful about the children health; we must take care of the new children that arrive with these health problems, but also the health of the children that were already living in our houses, we need to prevent the infectious disease to spread to others. We must take sick children to the hospital to receive medical attention, and obtain the medicines and antibiotics they need, which in most cases are difficult to find and the prices are very high.
Thus, we thank all our supporters that through GlobalGiving and this project help us to get the necessary economic means to obtain the medicines and to take care of the healthcare of the kids, so we can achieve the best health for our children.
The health of the children that we receive at Hogar Bambi Venezuela is worsening every day so that it is an utmost important matter for us to provide the necessary medical attention to our kids in order to recover their health.
It is widely known the scarcity of medicines in Venezuela and the difficult to find medicines locally, thus, we are compelled to turn to the foreign market to get the medicines and vaccines we need for our kids, and to be able to provide the excellent medical attention they deserve. With the daily and excessive increase of the price of the foreign currency compared to local currency, and inflation rate over a million percent annually last year, it has become hard to achieve this goal, for this reason, we need the support and collaboration of everyone who identifies with our mission.
We are very grateful for the support and the contributions we have received through Global Giving and we hope we can continue counting on it so we can give the children we receive at Hogar Bambi Venezuela, the medical attention that guarantees good health for them.
