Oviya a 3 year old girl was brought to the Arias home in a very devastated state. Severely malnourished, incomplete growth and suffering from multiple diseases. Lost her mother recently leaving her completely orphan. Deepa her mother was just 26 years old who had acquired HIV/AIDs and was taking treatment along with her daughter in TB Sanatorium, Tambaram . Her husband left her few years ago. There was none to support her or to take care of Oviya and thus Deepa was forced to take up a job for living. Deepa would leave Oviya in the house with food and water and would tie her with the rope every day so that Oviya moved in a limited space. Oviya would pass urine and everything in the same place. She hardly got a chance to interact with anyone as Deepa would return late from work. All this hampered the growth of Oviya, though she is 3 years old but looked like an 8 month baby, unable to talk or walk. She was physically very weak and this led to acquiring Tuberculosis.
After the death of the Deepa, Oviya's condition also deteriorated and was admitted in ICU. The hospital authorities didn't know what to do. The relatives were not ready to take her hence the hospital authorities requested HOPE foundation to take Oviya in their abode The HOPE staff took great care of Oviya in the ICU, her condition started improving and after fifteen days she was discharged from the hospital and brought to the orphanage.
All the children were so excited to see little Oviya, they welcomed her with smiling face and accepted her as their little sister. From August 2013 she is in the home, all the necessary care is being taken and she is being treated like a little queen in the home. She's got nobody in the world but she's got everybody in the home.
Past five months she is in the Home and has shown lot of improvement. We can see the smile, joy and peace on her face.
Now, she is holding chair and standing and even tries to walk on her own. She is also able to speak few words. She does lot of actions like standing and shaking her hip and dancing, closing her eyes while praying and also joining herhands. She responds to others with a smile. She is also getting healed from the tuberculosis tumours around her neck and under her arms. In the month of August when she came to the home she was weighing just 6.5 kgs but now she is 9 kgs.
