We conducted a 2-day Recreational Camp for the children of Hakuna Matata - capacity-building. We traveled to Gorkha Beach Resort, a 4-hour long drive away from Kathmandu to allow the children to immerse in recreational activities.
In order for the children to forget their everyday life for a while and feel comfortable, the first day of the Recreational Camp was planned with only casual activities and a lot of free time. The free time gave the children the opportunity to do what they wanted without a fixed framework, which created a relaxed atmosphere.
The next morning we spent 1.5 hours with the children to find out how they are doing and what their plans are for the future. After this discussion, they also reflected on the last three years of the Hakuna Matata project.
At the end of the recreational camp, everyone had the opportunity to take a short tour on a motorboat across the river.
After the reflection on Sunday, it became clear that the Recreational Camp was often mentioned as one of the best memories of the last three years of the Hakuna Matata project. During these two days, they had the opportunity to spend time with their friends outside of Kathmandu in a relaxed environment, to exchange ideas, and to forget everyday life.
