3 years have been completed with the 11 children of Hakuna Matata. As the year of Social Skills ended last month, we have begun Year 4 of the capacity-building project.
Year 4 for the children of Hakuna Matata will focus on the Higher Order of Thinking including Creative Thinking and Problem Solving. With 12 months to dwell into the skill, the method applied will focus on the children attending monthly workshops along with the BootCamp and recreational camp allowing children to learn in an external environment for change.
The curriculum is based on Bloom's Taxonomy in its introductory sessions. So far, we have completed the orientation for Year 4 along with a monthly workshop.
Brief Note on Workshop 1
The aim of the first workshop on Higher Order Thinking Skills was to show the beneficiaries which skills belong to the Higher Order of Thinking, but also how they can implement these skills in their daily life inside and outside school.
This included for example, what tools they can use to remember facts more easily, but also how they proceed when they need to understand difficult and complex information.
In addition to these skills, the children learned why it is important to apply their knowledge in their daily lives.
This workshop has mainly been an introduction to the more complex topics that will follow in the next few months. During these workshops, the focus is not only on remembering and understanding information, but also on analyzing, evaluating, and creating something new.
