Final Report: Haiti earthquake response

Over the past three years, Fondation Tous Ensemble (FONTEN) has been at the forefront of providing critical rehabilitation services and support to individuals affected by the devastating earthquake of 2021 and subsequent crises in southern Haiti. Despite immense challenges, including the structural damage to our clinic, we have remained steadfast in our mission to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and empower them to thrive within their communities.

Physical and Occupational Therapy: Delivered over 30,000 therapy sessions, serving thousands of individuals, including earthquake survivors, displaced populations, and children with disabilities.
Prosthetics and Orthotics Program: Fabricated over 1000 orthotics and 100 prosthetics, providing essential mobility solutions to patients, including victims of the earthquake.
Assisted Devices: Distributed over 2000 technical aids, including wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, and braces, significantly enhancing the independence of those we serve.
Conducted 120+ mobile clinics in remote areas, reaching 10,000+ individuals, including 885 earthquake survivors and 900 people with disabilities.
Distributed food and hygiene kits to 500 families, along with 100 water filter systems to promote health and hygiene.
Provided clean drinking water to 50 individuals with disabilities.
Organized workshops and support groups for amputee patients, stroke survivors, parents of children with disabilities, and osteoarthritis patients.
Hosted recreational activities and awareness campaigns, including events for International Down Syndrome Day, Women’s Rights, and GBV prevention.
Supported the Les Cayes Amputee Soccer Team, facilitating training and community games that foster inclusion and empowerment.
Reopened our renovated and earthquake-proof facility opened in January 2023.

Haiti earthquake response: April 2024 - June 2024

During the months of April to June 2024, the Fondation Tous Ensemble Rehabilitation Center in the South of Haiti has continued to provide essential rehabilitation services. As one of the only rehabilitation centers in the region, we serve an average of 60 patients daily, with a significant increase in patient numbers due to the displacement crisis.

Activities and Achievements:

Physical and Occupational Therapy Sessions: We conducted 2,740 consultations, providing vital therapy to our patients.
Internship Program: We facilitated internships for Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) students, fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Prosthetics and Orthotics Fabrication: Our skilled team fabricated 77 orthotics and 2 prosthetics, giving patients greater mobility and independence.
Clubfoot Treatment: We provided 72 consultations and treatments for clubfoot, ensuring better outcomes for affected individuals.
Assisted Devices Delivery: 62 assisted devices were delivered to those in need, enhancing their quality of life.
Training for Amputee Patients: We held training sessions for 34 amputee patients, equipping them with the skills to navigate daily challenges.
Participation in Health faire in Les Cayes: our team evaluated and treated more than 40 patients.

Patient Statistics:

New Patients: We welcomed 169 new patients during this period.
Monthly Average: We served an average of 300 patients each month.
Child Patients: 33% of our patients are children, highlighting the critical need for pediatric care.

The ongoing displacement crisis has led to an influx of patients, increasing the demand for our services. Your support is essential for us to continue providing high-quality care to the thousands of people who depend on us.

Haiti Earthquake response : December 23 - March 24

Despite the worsening situation in Haiti, Fondation Tous Ensemble Rehabilitation Center remains steadfast in its mission to serve the most vulnerable populations. As one of the few rehabilitation centers in the region, we have continued our efforts to provide essential services to those in need.

Activities Undertaken during this period include:

International Day of People with Disabilities Celebration: In December, we organized a special event to commemorate the International Day of People with Disabilities, highlighting the importance of inclusion and support for individuals with disabilities in our community.

Mobile Clinics: Our team conducted mobile clinics to reach communities in remote areas, ensuring that individuals with disabilities have access to quality healthcare and rehabilitation services.

Training for Parents of Children with Disabilities: We provided training sessions for parents of children with disabilities, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to support their children's development and well-being.

Internship Programs: Fondation Tous Ensemble welcomed Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) students for internship programs, providing them with hands-on experience and mentoring to further their professional growth.

Fabrication of Prosthetics and Orthotics: Our center fabricated orthotics and prosthetics, tailored to the specific needs of our patients, enabling them to regain mobility and independence.

Key Statistics: Total consultations: 2755, New patients: 177, Orthotics made: 75,Prosthetics fabricated: 4, Consultations and treatment for clubfoot: 136.

One of our patients, who traveled all the way from Port au Prince to seek therapy at Fondation Tous Ensemble Rehabilitation Center, expressed their gratitude for the excellent service provided by our dedicated team.
